It’s autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and that means it’s time to start getting cozy with a fall crochet project!
For this autumn crochet pattern I wanted to give a nod to cottagecore and the arts and crafts movement, celebrating all things folksy.
These little sprays of crochet acorns and oak leaves would be perfect for bunting, as part of table decor for a Thanksgiving feast, or even as a little brooch.
I’ve listed the colors I used below, but of course you can use whichever colors you prefer. I would suggest however, sticking with cotton yarn (rather than acrylic) as that gives the acorns and leaves a slightly more realistic feel. Because cotton yarn tends to be a little heavier than acrylic yarns, the leaves will also hang in a more realistic manner.

Autumn crochet pattern: crochet acorn
Acorn cap
Start with dark brown
Rnd1: work 6 sc into a magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc into each st (12)
Rnd 3 – 4: sc in each st around (12)
Slst to close, leave a tail for joining.
* As you work, the cap will naturally curl inwards (inside out). Leave the cap inside out! (the tail from the magic ring should be on the outside). I like to leave the cap inside out as the reverse side has a lovely texture which looks just like an acorn cap. You can turn the cap the right way around though if you prefer.
Acorn stalk
Chain 3, leaving a tail on either end of the stalk. Fasten off.
Attach to cap as follows: thread one of the acorn stalk yarn tails onto the yarn needle. Then thread the needle through the centre of the acorn cap (from outside to inside). Secure in place on the inside of the cap and weave in ends.
You can also further secure the stalk in place with some sewing thread.
Acorn nut
Start with light brown
Rnd 1: work 4 sc into a magic ring (4)
Rnd 2: *sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st. Rep from * once more (6)
Rnd 3: 2 sc in each st (12)
Rnd 4: sc in each st around (12)
Rnd 5: *work 4 sc, sc2tog, rep from * one more time (10)
Rnd 6: sc in each st around (10)
Stuff firmly
Rnd 7: sc2tog around (5)
Slst to close rnd. Fasten off and leave a tail for finishing
Thread the yarn tail onto the yarn needle and cinch the open end of the acorn closed.
Place the acorn cap on top of the nut and secure in place with a little light brown sewing thread or a yarn tail.
Weave in any remaining ends.
Autumn crochet pattern: crochet oak leaves
You can make any number of large and small oak leaves to include in your spray. If your leaves are a little twisted/buckled when you finish crocheting them, I suggest blocking them to straighten them out before sewing together in a spray.
Large crochet oak leaves
R1: Ch 18, sk 1, slst in next 6 sts, sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 5 sts. Work 5 dc into last ch.
Continue working around onto the other side of the starting chains.
R2: hdc in the next 5 sts, sc in the next 4 sts, slst into the next st. Leave the remaining chains (the stem of the leaf)
R3: Ch 1, turn and work back around the body of the leaf (not further down onto the stem)
*sc in next st, hdc in next st, into next st work (2 dc + ch 2 + slst), rep from * 2 more times.
Sc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next 2 st, sc in next 2 sts, ** into next st work (slst + ch 2 + 2 dc), hdc in next st, sc in next st; rep from ** 2 more times.
Slst to close. Fasten off and weave in ends
Small crochet oak leaf
R1: Ch 16, sk 1, slst in next 6 sts, * sc in next st, into next st work (sc + hdc), into next st work (hdc + slst); rep from * once more, sc into next 2 sts, into last ch work (sc + 2 hdc + slst)
Continue working around onto the other side of the starting chains.

*sc in next st, 2 hdc into next st, hdc into next st, slst in next 2 sts. Rep from * once more.
Slst into next st, sc into next st, 2 hdc into next st, 2 hdc into next st, sc into next st, slst into next 3 sts, sc into next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, slst into next st, sc in next st, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st, slst.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Finishing off your autumn crochet sprig
Arrange the leave and acorns in small bunches and sew together with sewing thread. I try to pair odd numbers of leaves with an odd or even number of acorns (for example, 3 leaves of varying sizes and 1 or 2 acorns). Spend a little time trying different arrangements and color combinations.
