Hashtag Granny Square crochet pattern | modern crochet design

This granny square crochet pattern is a modern take on the traditional granny square. Everything these days seems to have hashtag, so why not a hashtag granny square? (#grannysquare).

You do not need to be up to date with the latest trends to enjoy making this square (trust me, I’m not trendy at all!). The fun geometric hashtag shape is created using front and back post crochet stitches and creates wonderful texture, especially when grouped together in a blanket or pillow cover.

Since each round is a different color, this granny square crochet pattern is also perfect for using up all those scraps of yarn. I used pastel rainbow colors for my squares, but bold pops of color or even a monochromatic color scheme would look super.
