I’m definitely in a season of babies and toddlers! Where once my Facebook and Instagram feeds were full of wedding photographs and parties, now they’re full of bouncing babies and their proud (panda-eyed) parents (myself and my husband included!). What a wonderful (albeit sleep-deprived) season it is. Each day really is a new adventure.
At the moment, we are in the throws of teething. The time where my dear little boy transforms into a cranky, drool monster and chews EVERYTHING. And I mean everything… yesterday he crawled across the room to chew on the kitchen door frame!
He’s already got some cheeky monkey curtain tie-backs in his room, so I thought it would be fun to make something to match – and so the cheeky monkey rattle / teether was born! I’m so happy with how it turned out. It was a great way to use up the leftover yarn from the curtain tie backs and I love the upcycled use of a wooden curtain ring. How vintage!
One of the buzz phrases that you hear about with babies Bub’s age is “sensory play”. This is where play activities encourage babies to use a variety of different senses in their play time. Sensory play is crucial for development.
The cheeky monkey crochet rattle / teether is a wonderful tool for sensory play. It has both soft and hard surfaces, textured and smooth surfaces and it also makes a sound when rattled. There are also no harmful paints or fibres so baby can chew to his hearts content!
